IBEW Local 229 was chartered on March 13, 1918 in York , Pa. by the following “Charter Members”:

York was the third local to have the 229 charter and has held it strong for over 90 years. Local 229's first address was 130 S. Beaver St in York. It remained there until June 23, 1965 when Local 229 purchased the York Sheer Hosiery Co. building on 300 Hudson St. for $40,000. Local 229 operated out of this building until July 24, 2010 when the Local Union moved into its new location at 555 Willow Springs Lane. Local 229 continues to proudly represent approximately 400 electrical workers in York and Adams counties from our new location.
The jurisdiction of IBEW Local 229 consists of the entire county of Adams and the county of York except for Carroll, Fairview , Franklin and Monaghan townships.
Our “Inside” membership consists of inside wiremen, tele-data technicians, construction wiremen, construction electricians and residential wiremen.
Our “Manufacturing” and “Maintenance” membership consists of electrical workers with York City Electrical Department , F.E.C. Technologies and HADCO (Phillips) Inc.
Our union hall and training facility is located at 555 Willow Spring Lane in York.
